This blog is about knitting, but it's also about the things that I make. So we are going to talk about crocheting today, while still remembering that we LOVE knitting.
5 years ago I started crocheting a blanket for myself. Yes, it has taken me 5 years to make.. thank goodness it's over! This was the one project in my house that always took back burner. It wasn't urgent & it wasn't for someone else, so needless to say it wasn't super important. Although, it has special meaning to me.
The thing that makes it most special is that I used left over yarn from gifts that I have made friends and family over the years. (editor's note: the real reason this blanket was made is that I had sooo many small bits of left over yarn in the house and nothing to do with them. So when I finally found out something to do with them, it became a much more important task)
My favorite part of this blanket is remembering who and what I made with the yarn before the remnants became a blanket. Here are examples of what I mean...
The fuzzy purple edge on this one was once used to make Jen, one of the girls I nannied for, a scarf. She LOVED fuzzy soft things.
The multi-blue center was used to make my cousin son, Boone, a hat. And the light blue edge was made to make my good friend Jackie, from New Jersey, a hat.
The green on the outside made my hat, scarf & matching mittens. While the light green inner circle was used to make my first tea cozy, given to Kathy.
The outer light pink circle was to make my good friend Amy her hat, scarf & matching mittens. And the inner pink made her birthday blanket.
The multi-color in the inside was used to make my son, Boyd's, coming home from the hospital hat, booties & blanket.
The multi-pink & green was used to make my good friend Melissa's daughter a blanket.
One fun addition to this blanket is my scrap squares. They are even smaller bits of yarn used together to make one square. They have no rhyme or reason to them & that's what I love about them. There are about 10 of these squares in the blanket total. Below is one of my favorites.
There are 176 squares in this blanket, 176 memories, and 176 reasons I love to cuddle up with it!!
